Classroom Mandala
“Mandala” literally means “essence” or “circle-circumference” in Sandskrit, and has traditionally portrayed as a microcosm of the universe in eastern art, designating “sacred space.” At Tara Redwood School, and in this curriculum mandalas are seen as a representation of “our world” and used as a tool for developing awareness of our place in it. It involves following the effects of our actions and how they ripple out not only into our immediate lives (and into friends, family, community), but also beyond that out into the world. Our mandala is an extension of ourselves. Our mandala is our interdependent dynamic world.
This Classroom Mandala Tool can be used in your home or classroom representing our intention, our wishes, while reminding us of our power to have immediate and greater influence in making these come true. It comes with a booklet to use as a guide in helping give the heart and hand something beautiful and tangible to use to concentrate on our wishes to, “Be the change we wish to see in the world” – Ghandi.
